6. Area of
Operation
This page
will show you the area of "I Corps" that we operate in.
We conduct
missions mostly along the southern edge of the
Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in an Area of Operation (AO) that
is nicknamed "Leatherneck Square"
The combat
bases in that that AO are:
Firebase A-4
("Alpha-Four") formerly "Con Thien"
Firebase C-2
("Charlie-Two") ... this is where the Battalion (1/61st
INF) Headquarters is located.
Our Brigade (1BDE,
5TH DIV) Headquarters is located at "Camp Red Devil" located at Quang
Tri.
Our missions also take
us east to an area called "Cau Viet" ... west toward Laos to the "Khe Sanh"
area ... and south into the northern part of the Ashau
valley.
